Jobing Description
This position is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, security, and support of the LAN/WAN and Internet software applications and hardware and may also provide technical support for LAN applications that interface to HP9000 loan and share system as necessary.

The Network Engineer II is responsible for the design, configuration, operation, and administration of network servers, hardware, operating systems, firewalls, routers and communications links. Defines and implements solutions to integrate desktop and shared devices into local and wide area networks and/or other host-based networks. Recommends appropriate computer tools to users including equipment, software, documentation, and training. Monitors the security posture of the organization assuring that the appropriate remediation efforts are applied to keep our security posture at satisfactory levels.

Has routine contact with Information Systems staff, all levels of employees, end users, and vendor representatives. Assist in the coordination of all activities regarding the organization’s data communications networks.

KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Designs, configures, maintains, and manages network security for local and wide area network and Internet access.
2. Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of routers, gateways, remote access servers, domain servers, applications, device servers, and Internet/Intranet devices and connections.
3. Designs, configures, monitors, and optimizes local and wide area networks and printers for optimal performance, maximum availability, minimal maintenance, and reasonable cost.
4. Responsible for preventative and fault isolation maintenance on the local and wide area networks as well as routine file maintenance on servers, domains, electronic post offices, and user files and/or data bases.

5. Works with Telecommunications vendors to maintain voice, data, and video applications on the local and wide area networks as may be necessary.
6. Performs advanced diagnostics and maintenance on desktop devices or servers when additional expertise is required.
7. Works with inter-departmental teams in the design and implementation of specialized IT platforms.
8. Assists in the training of other Information Systems personnel to improve their technical skills.
9. Performs other related duties as required.

MANAGEMENT/ADMINISTRATIVE:

1. Follow up on results of installations to ensure that systems are operational.
2. Assist as necessary, in the analysis, trouble-shooting and testing on system software and procedures to solve posting or operational problems.
3. Develop and review quality assurance controls and procedures to ensure that departmental goals and projects are met in an accurate and timely manner.
4. Responsible for the development and implementation of procedures manuals and training programs related to systems operation.
5. Assures that logs and records as required by policy or regulations are maintained accurately and within the scope of the requirements.
6. See that reports are generated on a regular basis to meet the requirements of the IT Steering committee, regulations, policies and performance measurement.





Skills / Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
MCSE Certification or equivalent technical or professional experience related to the design, installation, and maintenance of local and wide area networks required.
Experience on Cisco router technology.
Experience on HP, Foundry, and Nortel switch technology.
Minimum 3 years experience in network operations.
Microsoft Windows 2000+ Servers and workstations (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP).
Microsoft SQL, ISA, WSUS.
Microsoft Exchange and Outlook 2003.
Network Infrastructure.
Unix, Linux .
SAN.
VMWare Virtual Infrastructure.

Must possess strong analytical skills and effective interpersonal communication skills to integrate with a wide range of users having different levels of computer expertise. Must possess the ability to develop workable solutions to problems in a timely manner. Must be able to maintain confidentiality because of the access to potentially private and sensitive information. Must have effective interpersonal skills to establish rapport with users and promote independent computing. Should demonstrate capacity for organization, prioritization, and management in a dynamic environment.
